PRACTICE MEET – SCOUTHEAD FARM, OCTOBER 2026

Practice Meet: 12th September, 2026

Weather conditions: Bright, sunny day.

The October practice meeting had a good team of nine, including a new member called Will.

Welcome to the Lancashire Branch Will.

It was a very pleasant, sunny and mild day. The song, ‘I Can See Clearly Now,’ written by Johnny Nash, captured the day perfectly!

Our quest at Scouthead Farm continued, as we quickly took down around 6 meters of wall.

Bev & Lee finished building the second lift of the stepped stile and completed approximately 6 meters of the toppers from a previous section. Their efforts, soon joined the build on the new section.

The rest of the group, soon got strong foundations in place, before it was time for a second breakfast. Kathy baked a sumptuous banquet of Parkin cake. Thanks to Kathy, elevenses, luncheon and afternoon tea were all taken care of.   With our energy levels high, walling was swift.

It is always a pleasure to work with such rich stone and have the help from our hosts John, Nicola and their sons, who provided extra building stone throughout the day, delivered by a mechanical horse.

When the day’s work was completed, my thoughts turned to an evening meal and a full pint of beer in a local Shire Inn.

A Great day was had by all, and we’re already looking forward to the warm welcome from our hosts John & Nicola on our return to Scouthead Farm in the New Year 2027.
