PRACTICE MEET, BOARSHURST, FEBRUARY 2025

Date: 9th February 2025

Location: Boarshurst

Conditions: Gloomy and overcast

It was a gloomy and overcast Sunday 9th of February that the Lancashire branch made their first foray of 2025. The business for the day was to continue the work that was started at the Boarshurst site back in December.

An impressive turnout of 19 were prepared to complete a cheek end and build a wall up a steep incline to meet the wall at the top of the site. Work quickly started on stepping the foundations up the slope while others were dispersed far and wide to find suitable stones to build the wall up.

A steady chain of people bringing in armfuls of stones was complimented by some mechanical assistance. This came in the shape of a rather ‘Heath Robertson’ contraption which could be best described as a motorised wheelbarrow. Slowly chugging its way at a stately pace; emitting the distinctive odour of diesel fumes as it went. The yellow ‘mule’ took some time to break in but eventually helped to shift a considerable pile of resources.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team busied themselves raising the wall up. By lunchtime considerable progress had been made, and everyone gratefully broke for lunch.
After lunch, work continued on all sections of the wall, and the members made steady progress towards completion. By the close of play, the wall was in various stages, but all looked excellent, as evidenced in the photos below.
