Walling Report June 2023

Date: 11 June 2023

Location: Ridge Farm, Diggle

Conditions: Sunny & extremely hot.

Objective: Take down and rebuild a 15m section of wall.

It was an excellent turnout at Ridge Farm, with 16 Wallers attending the practice meet. The conditions were demanding as we entered our third week without any significant rainfall making the work dusty and dirty. It was also extremely hot from the outset, with a clear blue sky for most of the day.

Despite the hot and demanding conditions, it was an excellent and productive day.

Taking Down

The group attempted a new technique when taking down the wall. Stones were graded by size and purpose and then laid out neatly in lines. This certainly speeded the progress of the build although space quickly became an issue.
