Training Courses 2023
Lark Hill, Dobcross
DATE: March 25th & 26th 2023
LOCATION: Lark Hill Lane, Dobcross
CONDITIONS: Mild with blustery showers on Saturday. Dry but much colder on Sunday with the wind from the north east.
OBJECTIVE: To instruct beginners how to take down and rebuild a dry stone field wall.
Eleven superb trainees from Reading, Ormskirk, Leeds, Timperley and Golcar took on the challenge. They dismantled the 210 year old wall, reset all the foundation and completely rebuilt the wall using the original material.
Starting Point – The ruined wall on Saturday morning
It all has to go – dismantling and laying out the old wall
What now? …… a very damp classroom
All ready for the new foundation
At home time on Saturday the skies had cleared to a beautiful evening, the lapwings were back and the wall was starting to emerge with some of the bigger throughs in place.
Perfect walling conditions for day 2 and everybody went for it. Where has all that stone gone?
Mind your fingers – TOPPERS! Just under but not touching the string please.
GREAT RESULT, HAPPY WALLERS and Paul modelling an off the shoulder number – WELL DONE EVERYBODY!!
Crompton Moor
DATE: August 12th & 13th 2023
LOCATION: Crompton Moor
Another full course for the weekend and held at Crompton Moor where we were well looked after by The Friends of Crompton Moor (TFCM) hosts Bob Kenworthy and John Hudson.
TCFM had prepared a lovely flat site and cleared the brush thus ensuring a safe pathway for the trainees which comprised a super mix of lads and lasses in the ratio seven to five. In charge for the weekend was Branch Secretary and National Chairman Mr Paul Clayton ably assisted by recently qualified instructor Neil Beevor.
Additional assistance was provided by four Branch volunteers.
